Easy on the eye
TWhile this sleek clamshell is clearly an eye-catcher, a hidden mirror effect makes the external display visible only when the Z610i is lit up.
The Sony Ericsson Z610 is shiny and sleek. No matter which color your chose, blue, pink, or dark brown, the surface would shine like a mirror. In fact, the curves and the color scheme give the device the look of a drop of mercury over a pebble. Using the same trick as Sony Network Walkman devices, the external OLED hides itself under the reflective cover surface when it’s off, and only shows through the surface when it’s on. When it does, it is gorgeous. Of course, the bad thing is that the reflective surface attracts fingerprints like you have never seen before, and it is actually quite easy to scratch, more so than the Nokia 8800. I would suggest protecting the phone with a pouch made for sunglasses.
The phone can be opened up to reveal a 262k colour screen & a stylish keypad for easy text input. The internal screen has a TFT display which comes with a screen resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. The internal screen with all is bright & clear colours allows the user to see animated wallpaper & fun screensavers. The Sony Ericsson Z610i comes with a high quality camera feature which is a 2 megapixel camera complete with 2.5 digital zoom. The digital zoom allows the user to get a closer shot at their target & ensures a clear & precise shot each time. The user can store, save, share & upload their pictures with ease. The user can have fun uploading their selected photos to their own personal blog site for all their friends & family to view. The user can get their own photo blog site up & running within a few seconds & enjoy sharing their experiences with others.
A 2 megapixel camera is mounted on the front of the handset, although it does lack a flash and autofocus. Like most mobile phone cameras, it is best suited to an occasional snapshot rather than everyday use. The Z610i’s camera includes a number of settings with 2.5x digital zoom, panorama, frames and burst shooting modes, a fairly ineffective night mode and a 10 second self-timer. Sony Ericsson has also offered a number of colour effects including negative, sepia and black and white. You can also adjust white balance settings with modes for auto, daylight, cloudy, fluorescent and incandescent available. The camera doubles as a video recorder with a microphone, but its performance is quite poor in this regard with excessive image noise and no real clarity. For video calling the Z610i features a VGA camera mounted above the display, although unlike many other 3G handsets you can’t use this sensor to take portrait photos.
